Gemini Gymnasts Stand With the Best at Provincials, Commonwealth Games

        

Oshawa – Gemini Gymnastics athletes once again stood with the best, at the Commonwealth Games in Australia and the Ontario championships.

National team member Jade Chrobok brought home a coveted team gold medal from the 2018 Commonwealth Games. It was the first time in 28 years that the women’s national team took home gold at the Games.

Chrobok, who comes from Toronto to train at the Oshawa club, was the only Ontario athlete on the Canadian women’s artistic gymnastics team, which also included Olympians Ellie Black of Nova Scotia, Shallon Olsen of British Columbia, Isabela Onyshko of Manitoba, and Brittany Rogers of Alberta.

A week prior to the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Chrobok was attending the prestigious World Cup in Birmingham, England, where she was competing against some of the best gymnasts in the world. Her results there secured her spot for Commonwealth Games.

“The Commonwealth Games was such an amazing experience,” Chrobok said in a press release. “I couldn’t have asked for a better team and am so appreciative of the hard work and support from my parents and coaches. I will cherish the memories made in Australia and will always be proud to represent Canada.”

Gemini gymnasts also shone at the 2018 Ontario Championships for Level 6-10 while competing among the best in the province. After four qualifying competitions to secure their spot to compete at the championships, 24 gymnasts represented Gemini, bringing home an astounding 49 medals.

Gemini captured team gold for levels 6, 7, and 8, in addition to seven all-around gold medals, two all-around silver medals, three all-around bronze medals, and five more athletes in the top 8. They also won an impressive 27 apparatus medals.

Gemini athlete highlights include Ontario champions Alexia Hunter of Oshawa (Level 6 Age 12 Group B), Georgia Barrett of Brooklin (Level 6 Age 13 Group A), Julia Tie Ten Quee of Belleville (Level 6 Age 14 Group A), Marisa Stewart of Brooklin (Level 7 Age 10-11), Nyah Creary of Oshawa (Level 8 Age 11-12), Ava Stewart of Bowmanville (Level 8 Age 13) and Isabella Kowan of Pickering (Level 9 Age 14-15).

Rounding out the all-around podium finishes were silver medallists Skylar Sach-Anderson of Whitby (Level 6 Age 14 Group B) and Lia Kaiser of Lindsay (Level 7 Age 14), and bronze medallists Emma Campbell of Bowmanville (Level 7 Age 12), Samantha Horvath of Bowmanville (Level 7 Age 14) and Meagan Kennedy of Whitby (Level 8 Age 11-12).

Apparatus champions included Creary for vault,; Hunter, M. Stewart and Horvath for bars; Sach-Anderson, M. Stewart, A. Stewart and Kowan for beam; Brooke Short of Whitby (Level 6 Age 11), Kaiser, Creary, A. Stewart and Kowan for floor. Gemini also had an additional 12 silver apparatus medals and 12 bronze apparatus medals.

Nine Gemini athletes have been named to Team Ontario to compete at the 2018 Eastern Canadian Championships May 12 and 13 in Oshawa at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

“I am very proud of our amazing athletes and coaches for outstanding results at these competitions,” said Elena Davydova, Gemini’s head coach and owner, in a press release. “These fantastic results can’t come without challenges, but good sportsmanship, hard work, and a positive environment help our Gemini team to excel.”
