Seven medals for Canadian artistic gymnasts at Sr. Pan American Championships.
Lims, Peru – Brooklyn Moors of Cambridge, ON was the top Canadian of the competition, winning a gold, silver, and bronze medal. Moors qualified for the floor final in second place, but her phenomenal performance of 13.667 points in the final was enough to win the gold medal. On vault, Moors had a shaky first pass scoring 12.800 before landing a strong second pass with a score of 13.700 to finish second overall and secure the silver medal. Moors’ bronze medal came on the uneven bars, where she scored 12.700 points to round out the podium.
“Competing in Peru was such a good experience,” said Moors following competition. “I made a couple mistakes on qualification day, so I tried to learn from those mistakes and fix them for finals and competitions in the future. Overall, I’m happy with all my results and for having such a great team and coaches.
Jade Chrobok of Toronto, ON captured the gold medal on the uneven bars with a score of 13.000, just .067 points ahead of second place. “This competition was a new experience for me,” said Chrobok. “My beam routine in qualifications was not where I wanted it to be, so I just tried to focus on the bar event finals with the help of my team and coaches.”
In the beam final, it was Sophie Marois of Ile Bizard, QC who captured the gold medal with a score of 13.167. Marois qualified for the final in fifth place following a rocky performance in the qualifying round, but rebounded in the final to take top prize.
Laurie Denommee won silver in the floor final with a double full layout, to finish with 13.000 points behind teammate Moors. “This is a new experience for me, it’s the first time I’m representing Canada,” said Denommee. “I only did vault and floor and I tried my best to make it to finals and I did for both events so I’m glad.”
Canadian all-around champion Zachary Clay of Chilliwack, BC had a terrific final pommel horse routine to win the gold medal with a score of 14.067. Clay moved up from fifth in qualifying to stand atop the podium.
